What To Do In Case Of An Emergency – Contact Our Merced, Los Banos, or Fresno Orthodontic Offices

Thank you for visiting Orthodontics Exclusively’s Emergency Information page. In the case of an emergency, please call our office at (209) 723-3776. If you reach this number during non-patient hours, our office has a 24-hour answering service, which will contact whichever doctor is on call that day. Once you get ahold of us, depending on the nature of your injury, you can either text us a picture from your mobile phone or you can do a live video chat with Dr. Boese, Jr. This is really helpful for the doctor and the patient because we can see the problem and nature of the injury.

If you call during patient hours, please do not come down to our office immediately until you have spoken with one of our receptionists. This will allow our receptionist to schedule you in one of our emergency slots and also have your treatment card ready before you are seen. Based on the nature of your emergency, the receptionist will then schedule a time for you to been seen at one of our three locations.

For your convenience, especially in a state of emergency, Orthodontics Exclusively has three offices located in Fresno, Merced, and Los Banos. Even if you have a regular appointment scheduled, call us immediately if something does not look right, if your teeth are loose or you are in any kind of discomfort. Our dedicated team is here to help you navigate through any type of orthodontic emergency.

Loose Brackets or Bands

Call our office immediately for advice if a bracket or wire is loosened. The bracket may need to be re-fitted as soon as possible. You may have a situation that requires cutting a wire or sliding a bracket off a wire at night or over the weekend. If you need to cut a wire in case of emergency, you may use fingernail clippers that have been washed and sterilized in alcohol. Please call our office the next business day, so that we may schedule an appointment for you.

Wire Irritations

Sometimes discomfort caused by a wire on your braces can be resolved by moving the wire away from the irritated area with a cotton swab or eraser. If the wire will not move, try covering the end of it with a small piece of cotton or a small amount of wax. If the wire is painful, you can cut it with nail clippers or scissors that have been washed and sterilized in alcohol. If you cannot resolve the wire irritation, call our office for an appointment.

Lost Separators

Most patients lose a separator during their treatment. Do not worry about losing a separator, but call our office to see if it needs to be replaced.

Discomfort With Orthodontic Treatment

During the first week after your braces are in place and routine adjustments are complete, you will likely feel some pain, soreness or discomfort. You may take acetaminophen or other non-aspirin pain relievers while you adjust to your new braces. A warm washcloth or heating pad may reduce the soreness in your jaws.
